Our goal is to breed puppies with sound minds and healthy bodies combined with balanced temperaments, and that noble look. This combination makes the total package for a great German Shepherd, allowing  them to become loyal companions, protective friends, beautiful family pets, and great working dogs.
Over the years of breeding dogs we have learned many things, but one of the most important is that having a dog as part of your family is a great and rewarding experience. Everyone should feel the love and devotion that a canine companion can bring into their lives. Another thing we have learned is we will breed for what we want, not what some judge wants to see, or breed because this dog has that title, or this title. All of our dogs are valued family members and receive the love and attention they deserve.  We raise only a few litters a year so the puppies will receive the attention and socialization that is so important in their early development. It also allows us to spend time with each litter and watch them grow and develop into their own personalities so when it is time for the new families to choose their new puppy we can guide them into which pup is the right match. We temperament test our puppies from day one, and  by the time they are ready to go we know them very well!
All of our dogs are OFA or OVC certified clear of hip and elbow dysplasia.  All puppies will be CKC registered, micro-chipped, tattooed, de-wormed, vaccinated, vet checked and come with a written guarantee, as well as 6 weeks insurance. You will also receive a 5 generation pedigree along with a photo album, lots of fun info on puppy stuff and a health record of the puppy. We provide continuous after sales support and assistance to all of our shepherds and puppy buyers, and feel honoured when these people come back for their second puppy. We have one family who bought a puppy from our very first litter and have now owner 5 of our dogs!
Our puppies are born in our house where we can constantly watch over and monitor their growth and development. We have a video camera in the whelping room so we can watch the mother and puppies without always disturbing them. There is also a live cam so that people anywhere in the world can go on the internet 24/7 and watch the puppies play and grow. Once they are 5-6 weeks old, they are allowed to be outside in our big covered kennel runs so they get to interact with the adult dogs and see the big wide world.  We believe that lots of handling, attention, love and socializing is essential for our pups. We spend many hours walking down Main street Courtenay and standing in front of busy stores with our pups!

Here is the definition of IPO

IPO= Schutzhund. Due to political reasons, Germany no longer calls protection sport "Schutzhund" and since it originated in Germany, the rest of the world followed suit.
What does IPO stand for? Internationale Prüfungs-Ordnung.
Translation means: International auditing rules or International Exam Rules.
schutzhund is a German word meaning “protection dog".

Now... The Sport
Schutzhund originated in Germany in the 1800's. In this time German Policeman were called "Schutzmann" and his K9 "Schutzhund".
It refers to a sport that focuses on developing and evaluating those traits in dogs that make them more useful and happier companions to their owners.
IPO work concentrates on three parts- tracking, obedience, and protection. Many who are familiar with the obedience work of the American Kennel Club’s affiliates will recognize the first two parts, tracking and obedience. The IPO standards for the third part, protection work, are similar to those for dogs in police work.
While dogs of other breeds are also admitted to IPO trials, this breed evaluation test was developed specifically for the German Shepherd Dog. IPO is intended to demonstrate the dog’s intelligence and utility. As a working trial, IPO measures the dog’s mental stability, endurance, structural efficiencies, ability to scent, willingness to work, courage and trainability.
This working dog sport offers an opportunity for dog owners to train their dog and compete with each other for recognition of both the handler’s ability to train and the dog’s ability to perform as required. It is a sport enjoyed by persons of varied professions, who join together in a camaraderie born of their common interest in working with their dogs. Persons of all ages and conditions of life --- even those with significant disabilities --- enjoy Schutzhund as a sport. Often, it is a family sport.
