I have been involved with German Shepherd Dogs since 1974, having owned a beautiful male German Shepherd named King.  The German Shepherd Dog is my breed of choice because of their supreme intelligence, beauty, trainability and loyalty.

Von Sonnenberg Kennels was born in 1992 out of my dream to breed and train the highest quality German Shepherd Dogs available, and Reyko was my foundation stud who still lives on today in my breeding program in his legacy of progeny.

Have you ever thought about the benefits of giving your dog his own bed? Many people still have the idea that a dog bed is a luxury and isn’t really a necessity. This could not be further from the truth. People sleep in a bed not because it is a luxury but because it is a requirement. When you start thinking of it this way, you’ll see that your dog really deserves a dog bed. Here are just some of the many benefits you’ll see as a result of getting your dog set up with his own special place to lie down.

1. Protection While you may be trying to keep your home as clean as it possibly can be, it is hard to always get all of the little bits and pieces off of the floor and carpets. If you have children and other animals in your home it can at times seem virtually impossible! Think about all the crumbs and dirt that your dog may be lying on when he rests on the floor. This can be very uncomfortable to say the least. Dog beds, on the other hand, are easy to clean and maintain. Your dog is sure to get a better night’s sleep when he is sleeping on an area that is free of any debris.
2. Comfort level Any dog will feel more comfortable in his own bed as long as you put in the effort to find the right one. Dogs love to snuggle and it is important to find the right size that gives your dog enough room to move around a bit but also gives him the security of being in a closed area. When you are shopping around for dog beds you’ll have to imagine the area your dog covers when he is curled up in a sleeping position and get one that is slightly larger than that. This is the optimum size of bed that will give your dog as much comfort as possible.
3. His own place Many dog owners have reported that their dogs love a bed because it gives them a space of their own that no one else can enter. If there are two dogs in the same home each dog will take command of their own bed, in most cases, and call it their own. A dog can actually feel lost if it does not know its boundaries and understand that there is a place it can go that belongs only to him. Your dog probably does not own much in your home. His own bed will give him his own sense of dog ownership, which is important.
4. A healthy dog A dog bed will also benefit the health of your special friend. His body temperature will be more regulated on a bed, which will contribute to his overall health. As well, the mattresses found on these types of beds offer firm support for your dog’s back and limbs. You can expect to find your dog more relaxed after a better night’s sleep and generally happier. A dog bed should really be considered a necessity for any size of dog and any breed. You wouldn’t want to sleep on the floor every night so why should your dog be any different?

Currently I work as a part time field instructor for Paws with a Cause, a National Assistance dog program which provides Assistance dogs, Hearing ear dogs and Seizure response dogs to people in need.

Previously I worked as a Seeing Eye dog instructor, Pilot dog guide dog instructor and Military Police dog trainer/instructor for the U.S. Marines. I have trained and handled dogs overseas and throughout the Nation for over 31 years. Additionally I am an active Schutzhund trainer/competitor, having placed in the top five at regional and national events. I have trained dogs for the television series Law and Order and the major motion pictures, Body of Lies and Law Abiding Citizen.

From the most common problems, to the most extreme issues, I have actively dealt with them drawing upon my wealth of real and practical experience.

My goal with clients is to help them with the most practical, safe and effective program. I realized many years ago that the key to most problems is finding a solution that is effective and attainable for both dog and owner.

The training programs are usually conducted in your home or problem area. Each program is tailored to work with your dogs strength. I strive to teach very clear communication, the desire is to have a dog clearly understand the difference between right and wrong, I have found that vague or poorly communicated ideas generally leads to problems 

I believe in my methods and trust my experience is unmatched. I have been fortunate to have worked for some of the most respected and world renowned organizations in the United States, These programs are highly competitive and select their trainers based on desire and ability. I did not pay but was selected based on my merit.

In the summer of 2002, Steve established K9 Solutions.
Recently, Steve competed at the 2005 North American Schutzhund Championship and placed 4th as a handler/owner team along with placing 4th at the H.O.T. Championship. 
Steve is currently trialing two Schutzhund dogs, Aika a female German Shepherd, and Hasso, a male German Shepherd, under the guidance of Jim Hill, a 5 time world team member.

The versatility of our dogs is true to the breed. You will find them on the Schutzhund field, in the show ring and working as therapy and service dogs.

Certainly as important is the role our German Shepherds fill as loyal family companions and protectors.

We are located in Illinois forty miles outside of Chicago. Our litters are born and raised in the home exclusively. We never breed more than two to three litters per year. This allows us to focus individual attention on each and every puppy. We begin neurological stimulation at day three of of the puppy's life and they are temperament tested at forty eight days.

In addition our German Shepherd puppies are socialized to children, adults and other dogs. We feel this is a crucial foundation for the puppy reaching its true potential.
