Our dogs are bred to be mentally healthy, physically sound, intelligent, have lots of character, personality, and heart, and be livable. They are capable of almost anything. They are the most versatile of any breed. They are childproof, when raised properly. Our breeding animals are selected on their ability to learn, temperament, and of course, health background. We breed to dogs that will compliment and improve our existing stock. They are instinctively protective without being aggressive. Soundness, health, willingness, trainability, and mental stability are priorities in our breeding program. We abhor dog aggressiveness. Trendy breeding or breeding for beauty only is NOT a consideration. Our dogs do have the ability to reason.
 

All of our breeding stock is OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) certified.  Dogs of German origin are "a" stamped.  Our proven record is becoming more apparent as the years pass. Because of genetic faults in any breed, our dogs are fully guaranteed. Even by using all of the genetic screening tools available to breeders, an occasional problem may arise. We guarantee our animals because of this fact. All of our dogs are von Willebrand disease tested. They are all Temperament Certified (TC). We choose to certify their eyes of phenotypical disease. Their thyroid evaluations are normal.

We register all of our dogs through the AKC (American Kennel Club). They are permanently tattooed on their inner thigh with their AKC registration number or tattooed in their right ear for Hinterland litter identification. Our kennel is permanently registered with the SV in Germany and Schutzhund U.S.A.

The AKC Standard says the German Shepherd "has a distinct personality marked by direct and fearless, but not hostile, expression, self-confidence, and a certain aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. The dog must be approachable, quietly standing its ground and showing confidence and willingness to meet overtures without itself making them”.

That's a great description of an ideal German Shepherd.

When you're talking German Shepherd Dog maturity there are many factors involved.  Bone freeze occurs around 11 months.  There will be no more "growth" after that, but they will "fill out" until the age of 2 and some, beyond that.  In our experience, when they are 3, German Shepherd Dogs are mature mentally and should be considered an Adult.

My goal is to breed quality German Shepherds that will be easy to train and well mannered. I strive to raise the healthiest, happiest puppies possible and place each of them in a loving home. All of my German Shepherd puppies include a written and signed health guarantee, papers for AKC registration, complete medical record, health examination and USDA health certification. They will arrive at their new home current on all age appropriate vaccinations and dewormings. I also provide a daily schedule including current diet, feeding schedule and potty routine which will help them settle in with your family. They will come to you already fitted with a tiny harmless microchip that will stay safely in place for life, offering protection from loss, theft or separation. The microchip number is unique and belongs only to your puppy. To help you select the very best puppy for your family all of my puppies have been aptitude tested. Although I am located in Branson, Missouri, I am experienced at getting your puppy to you quickly and safely and can arrange delivery all over the Continental US, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

We became a kennel when we started in the sport of Schutzhund as a hobby. The desire and need for German Shepherd Dogs of our type, temperament and working ability sparked our desire to begin breeding for what we wanted in a dog.

 

We are a small, family operated and owned kennel focusing the majority of our time on our German Shepherd Dogs. As dog trainers first we feel it is of utmost importance to get a puppy off to the right start from the day they are born. We have a puppy program we put our litters through to encourage confidence, build up the ability to handle stress, and expose them to as many different surfaces and obstacles as we can. This creates a very well rounded German Shepherd puppy making a fantastic candidate in a working home, or as an active companion for a family.

We choose to keep our kennel small to ensure we dedicate as much time as we need to each individual puppy as well as our adults. We train and title all of our dogs ourselves to gain a complete understanding of what our dogs have to offer to our breeding program. Breeding only a select few litters a year allows us the ability to evaluate puppies as they grow so we can match puppy and buyer for complete compatibility. With the small amount of litters, this means we may not always have puppies available. We choose to keep a waiting list to be called when puppies are born, and deposits to be placed on puppies for a place in line.

We are located in Illinois forty miles outside of Chicago. Our litters are born and raised in the home exclusively. We never breed more than two to three litters per year. This allows us to focus individual attention on each and every puppy. We begin neurological stimulation at day three of of the puppy's life and they are temperament tested at forty eight days.

In addition our German Shepherd puppies are socialized to children, adults and other dogs. We feel this is a crucial foundation for the puppy reaching its true potential.

Masterton German Shepherds - Queensland Australia

My parents had Alsatians (as they were referred to in the olden days) back in Britain when I was only a child before moving to Australia and unfortunately the one we had in Britain was not allowed to come with us because of the Import Ban into Australia in those days.  That was a very difficult time for my parents having to leave her behind. 

Eventually my parents just had to get another one in Australia and there it all began.  Mum and Dad "dragging us kids along" to dog shows where of course we eventually got "the bug" and after all it was in the blood.  I was allowed to own my very first German Shepherd in the 60's and loved the obedience side of things rather than the showing so did obedience with her and actually took her through to CD which was a thrill for me only being very young in those days. 

Masterton Kennels was registered as a kennel name back in the 70's when along with my mother and sister the kennel name was decided after numerous rejections of other name choices by the NSWCCC.  On our 24th attempt the NSWCCC allowed us the name of "Masterton" which my Dad had picked after Steve Masterton had just won a major car race.  It was a case of we needed one more name for our list so we just threw it in and bingo we were allowed that one.  When my parents and I moved up to Queensland in the 80's the kennel name was transferred into my name. 

In 1985 we moved to Childers in Queensland.  What a beautiful countryside it was when seen for the first time.  There had been plenty of rain and everything was green.  It isn't always nice and green because there is never enough rain to maintain the lovely land.  This is what it looks like from above.

 

 

All puppies that are kept get campaigned in the show ring with the hope that they have the goods to become Australian Champions.  Numerous animals have achieved their Australian Championship titles with the most prestigious one being Crossfire Claim To Fame "Trapper" who became an Australian GRAND Champion.  Trapper actually being bred by my sister and was kindly given to me as a present.  What a wonderful gift.   All breeding stock have been x-rayed for hips and elbows and I have received the Gold Medal from the German Shepherd Club of Australia for breeding over 50 animals that have achieved their pass for hips.

We are dedicated to producing the total German Shepherd Dog and have been active with the importing, titling, showing and breeding of top quality German Shepherd Dogs since 1989. Our dogs and puppies live in our home, not in kennels and are cherished family members. We will only import and breed dog's that follow the strict regulations of the SV in Germany. All of our breeding stock must have achieved VA or V ratings in the show/conformation ring and have a minimum of a BH, AD, and Schutzhund SchH, and or IPO Working Titles. Both the sire and dam must be breed surveyed with a rating of Kkl 1, the highest recommendation for breeding and have had their hips and elbows xrayed using the German "a" Zuerkannt, and/or the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (O.F.A.) and PennHip scheme to assure that we have taken every precaution towards breeding dogs free of hip dysplasia. All of our puppies are guaranteed to have sound health and temperaments and are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC).

We take pride in breeding top quality German Shepherd puppies to the standard that are healthy in both mind and body and free of genetic disease. Show homes, working homes, and pet companion homes are all equally important to us. Our involvement with the German Shepherd Dog is a privilege and a love. We breed to advance the quality of the breed, not the quantity.
